Former Red Star responds to insults
US point guard Billy Baron was decisive in Olimpia Milano’s return to victory in the Euroleague after nine consecutive losses. The success came on the court of Red Star and putting the stamp, for the meneghini, was the former of the day who, in addition to 19 points also amnded the triple that effectively closed the game.
After the match the player, in Belgrade from 2018 to 2020, commented to ‘Mozzart Sport’ on the insults he received from the Serbian public: “I’m not angry. We knew what kind of atmosphere was waiting for us in Belgrade. This is the most difficult place to play in all of Europe. I love this arena, it is one of the best in the world, especially with this atmosphere. I love this club, the fans, and there is no anger. And in the end we won.”
Last season, Ettore Messina’s team returned to win the Scudetto, snatching it from the jerseys of Virtus Segafredo Bologna. The red-and-whites, who had finished second right behind Sergio Scariolo’s team in the regular season, immediately brought the court factor to their side in the final series and never let the Felsinians catch them again. In the Euroleague, Sergio Rodriguez (who said goodbye to the Red Shoes in the summer to return to Spain) and his teammates were eliminated by Ergin Ataman’s Anadolu Efes, who would win the tournament for the second year in a row.
