FISI Medical Commission President Andrea Panzeri told official FISI channels.

A big scare. A lightning operation that will perhaps still allow her to compete in Saturday’s downhill on the snows of St.Moritz, the same ones that on Friday saw her, despite coming second at the finish line, get a nasty injury to her left hand after impacting against a pole.

Finished under the knife in record time, Sofia Goggia reserved her decision on whether or not to take part in Saturday’s competition.

FISI Medical Commission President Andrea Panzeri took part in the operation the champion from Bergamo underwent at the La Madonnina clinic in Milan. “Sofia suffered a decomposed fracture of the second metacarpal and a fracture of the base of the third metacarpal of her left hand. The surgery involved reduction and synthesis with a plate and screws, now it will be immportant to see how the night will proceed, how the pain will go and how Goggia will feel tomorrow morning. She has more than one type of protection, to use above and below the glove for safety. The confirmation of her departure we will see in the morning based on a number of parameters,” he told FISI.
