Between Milan and the new vice-Maignan there is a big obstacle
Anxiety remains over Maignan’s condition
These are important days for AC Milan, which after the Dubai retreat will return after Christmas to prepare for the resumption of the season: the club, however, remains anxious about the condition of starting goalkeeper Mike Maignan, one of the key men for the 2022 Scudetto, whose last league appearance was on Sept. 18 (Milan-Napoli 1-2), before the calf knock he suffered defending the French national team’s goal.
Currently, the goalkeepers in the squad are Ciprian Tatarusanu and veteran Antonio Mirante; behind them are youngsters Lapo Nava and Andrea Jungdal. Only the Romanian, however, has been playing with some continuity in the last period: for this reason, the management is willing to accelerate the negotiations to bring Marco Sportiello to Milan as early as January, as he is already “booked” for June. There is, however, a not insignificant obstacle, represented by the outright “no” from Atalanta.
The Nerazzurri do not want to deprive themselves, in turn, of the vice-Musso and would not be willing to let him go in January and be forced to sound out the market ahead of time. Milan therefore will have to find a way to convince the Nerazzurri, or veer to other targets, trusting that ‘Magic Mike’ can return between the posts as soon as possible.
