Florence will host the 2023 edition of the Pietro Mennea Golden Gala. The Italian leg of the Wanda Diamond League, scheduled for Friday, June 2, 2023, will be held at the “Luigi Ridolfi” stadium, a facility that has already successfully hosted the event in 2021. Formalizing the choice was FIDAL President Stefano Mei at this morning’s Federal Council meeting. “”As you know, the Olympic Stadium in Rome will not be available due to the track redevelopment works in view of the 2024 European Championships,” the president said, “and the choice of Florence is the fulfillment of a path of dialogue with institutions at all levels. It is a very high-profile venue already appreciated in 2021. We also evaluated the hypothesis of Naples, but the concomitance with the soccer championship and the impossibility of holding throwing competitions made it impossible for this year.”

The Golden Gala Pietro Mennea 2023 will be the third stage of the top international circuit, the first in Europe. It will be an evening of stars, with the world’s top athletes and the Italian champions, who will go in search of qualifying points for the final in Eugene (Sept. 16-17). Fifteen specialties are on the program for the Florence event. Men: 100, 200, 5000, 110hs, high, triple and weight. Women: 100, 400, 1500, 3000 steeplechase, 400hs, pole, long, discus.
