Sonego outspoken about Berrettini and Sinner

On the occasion of the SuperTennis Awards that saw Lorenzo Musetti triumph in the men’s and Martina Trevisan triumph in the women’s, Lorenzo Sonego made a few statements, returning to the Davis Cup finals that saw the Azzurri defeat the United States in the quarterfinals only to be eliminated by Canada in the semifinals.

“To have won against two top 20 bodes well for the new season; I feel more mature. I feel good right now. I was No. 21 in the world and I hope to reach that position again. Lorenzo Musetti and I have been training hard this week and sharing this challenging part of the season with him has been great,” said the Piedmontese tennis player.

“I try to play more aggressively and enterprising, in Davis I saw the fruit of the training. Davis 2023? In Malaga the atmosphere was incredible, the cheering charged me. It was my best performance in 2022. I played my best tennis,” Sonego continued.

Finally, he did not mince words about the absences of Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner: “Berrettini and Sinner were missed. Their absences have been felt, with them on the team we are stronger and aim to win. This year we came within a whisker of it, maybe we deserved more, but next year we can do better.”
