The words of Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon on the Figc website returned to talk about his past in Azzurro. “The national team represents the moment in which I was able to say I am happy because I made it. Growing up with a passion for soccer, having already made my debut in Serie A and wearing the national team jersey at least once was like fulfilling a dream. I could say that I was happy and that I had made it. I when I look at the Renaissance jersey, I wonder why we Italians, more generally Italy as a nation, always need a deflagration to then find the reason to start again. Moreover, I had the honor of being the only goalkeeper in the national team who was able to wear the Azzurri jersey.”

“It was a gift that PUMA gave me. I remember it well: we played in Turin against Macedonia. At the time the coach was Ventura. It was a special night because we goalkeepers never have the honor of wearing a jersey that represents the nation. In that case, however, I was a blue all the way. This is something special psychologically: when I was a boy, I did everything I could to stand out from the others, and having a different jersey was something I enjoyed. As I grew up and became a more mature person I felt the need to be with others and share something with others. So the fact that I was able to wear the blue jersey was also something that united me and made me happy. The World Cup? The first thing you think about after winning a World Cup is that you can die the next day happy. You feel on your skin the greatness the importance of the event and what you did. You understand it because others make you understand it.”
