Marcell Jacobs in Dubai
The year 2023 begins in gathering for many Italian athletes. Olympic 100 and 4×100 champion Marcell Jacobs chose Dubai as his training destination from Dec. 29 to Jan. 28 to prepare for the first events of the indoor season that will culminate in the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul (March 2-5).
From the first days of the new year in Tenerife, Canary Islands, some of last season’s Italian medalists will be working, including world high jump bronze medalist Elena Vallortigara, European triple jump silver medalist Andrea Dallavalle, Olympic relay champion and 200 continental bronze medalist Filippo Tortu, and the 4×100 relay team bronze medalists in Monaco. In Portugal, in Monte Gordo, European 10,000 champion Yeman Crippa will prepare with twins Ala Zoghlami and Osama Zoghlami, the latter a European bronze medalist in the 3000 steeplechase. Flying to Stellenbosch, South Africa, are Olympic 4×100 gold medalist Fausto Desalu and weightlifters Zane Weir and Leonardo Fabbri. Also in Tenerife are hurdlers; in Ancona, jumpers including Italian pole vault record holder Roberta Bruni (and multiplalists Dario Dester and Sveva Gerevini); in Formia, a group of sprinters in the 4×100 and 4×400; in Tirrenia, throwers including U20 hammer world champion Rachele Mori; and in Castelporziano, marchers, home to Olympic champions Antonella Palmisano and Massimo Stano.
