Novak Djokovic back at Australian Open: “We did everything we could.”
After the problems of the past, the future promises to be different in Melbourne.
Novak Djokovic could not take part in the 2022 edition of the Australian Open due to the well-known vaccine-related controversy, a situation that will not recur in 2023. The Serbian will therefore be able to return to events in Australia: the ATP 250 tournament in Adelaide and then the Melbourne Slam. And the very organizer of the latter has returned to the matter.
“The last two years have been very complicated. Not just for us at the Australian Open, but for everyone and every corner of the world. However, the circumstances of the 2022 tournament were out of our control. We would have been happier if there were no problems, but we did everything we could to minimize them,” Australian Open director Craig Tiley explained to ‘The Times of India.
Very different situation in this 2023, in which precisely Djokovic will again be present at the Australian Open. “We are focused on welcoming him back. As early as next week he will be in Australia, he is in great form and will be the number one favorite. We’re talking about an absolute champion, who I’ve heard a lot about over the course of the year. And he is beloved here, so many people will cheer him on,” Tiley added.
