Rafa Nadal, Olympic goal: Spain calls him
Despite the many physical problems of recent times, a big goal looms.
Rafa Nadal has experienced a decidedly contradictory 2022, as on the one hand he has recounted yet another long trail of successes (starting with the Australian Open and Roland Garros) but on the other hand he has again been mowed down by injuries. This is why people are beginning to reflect on the time when retirement from tennis will come for him. A decision, however, that will probably be delayed for more than a year. Indeed, the idea is to take part in the Olympics to be held in 2024.
The next Olympic Games will in fact be held in Paris, and in particular the tennis tournament will take place on the very court of Roland Garros. Further reason to see the presence of a Rafa Nadal who would rightfully run for the gold medal. And that is precisely what the Olympic Committee of Spain is pressing for.
“I hope with all my heart that the Paris 2024 Olympics will have Rafa Nadal. We will do everything we can to convince him, also because if he participates I am convinced that he will win the gold medal,” indeed explained Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, in an intervention on the radio program ‘El Partidazo de Cope.
Rafa Nadal during his career has already won gold twice at the Olympics: in Beijing 2008 in singles and in Rio de Janeiro 2016 in doubles. The next goal is 2024, simultaneously close or very far away depending on how his physique responds in the coming months.
