Novak Djokovic has returned to Australia almost a year after the nightmare. The Serbian tennis player, who in early 2022 was expelled from the Oceanic country (after being confined to a hotel for days) because he was not vaccinated against Covid and was thus forced to miss the Australian Open, has landed in Adelaide, where he will participate in the season-opening Atp 250 tournament.

The Australian government granted the former world number one a visa informing that it decided to reverse its decision of a year ago after considering all factors. Since Djokovic’s deportation, all Covid-related border restrictions have been removed in Australia, including providing proof of vaccination status.

Nole is now aiming for victory in the Australian Open, where he is record holder: his goal is to join Nadal at 22 Slams. The tournament kicks off on January 16 at Meloburne Park.
