United Cup, Matteo Berrettini’s coach warns opponents
The words of Vincenzo Santopadre
Matteo Berrettini’s coach, as well as Italy’s captain in the United Cup, Vincenzo Santopadre, spoke at a press conference ahead of his student’s debut in the team competition, expected to be played by Brazilian Thiago Monteiro.
“We know that playing the first match after a long time will not be easy for Matteo. But he is here to do his best. His last official singles match was with Lorenzo in Naples: of course at the beginning of the match he will have to try to find his rhythm. But I think he has had good training here and also in the off-season. He wants to play. He wants to have fun and he likes to play in these team competitions,” Santopadre commented.
He then analyzed the first day’s matches with Martina Trevisan defeated by Beatriz Haddad Maia and Lorenzo Musetti overcoming Felipe Meligeni: “I think both Martina and Lorenzo were able to fight on every single point. That was what we wanted. The score of Martina’s match is very heavy, but the first set was not that bad, she was closer to her opponent than the score says. I really liked Lorenzo’s match because he played really solid. In the second set he struggled a little bit because Meligeni made a great comeback. He had to face some difficult moments but he did a great job.”
