In Brazil, President Jair Bolsonaro decreed three days of mourning throughout the country after Pelé’s death.
Santos, on the other hand, has let it be known that the public will be able to pay their last respects to ‘O Rei’ at Vila Belmiro Stadium. The coffin of the three-time world champion will be placed in the center circle of the field after being carried through the streets of Santos and passing in front of the home of his mother of 100 years, Celeste.
The funeral will finally take place instead on Tuesday, January 3, and will be preceded by a procession through the streets of Santos. The body will then be interred at the Memorial Necropole Ecumenica after a private ceremony reserved for the family.
