Christian Horner’s words

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner pampers Max Verstappen: “2021 was an epic year, and I think it will go down in history as one of the greatest Formula 1 seasons of all time. After going through the last season, triumphing, you forget that he is 25 years old, and he is still very young. Between last year and this last one, I think he took another step forward. The maturity with which he drove in 2022 has reached another level. Look at the GPs he won earlier this year: the double race at Imola was spectacular, and then the one in Miami with Charles. Those wheel-to-wheel in the first few races were extraordinary. Then he kept going, like a metronome, and the more pressure there was, the more he scored: there were incredible wins. Hungary comes to mind, where he took a penalty and came back. Spa, where he was totally dominant, and the pressure of Zandvoort. But the list goes on.”

“I think this year was really outstanding, it was an incredible season, for Max and for the team. Obviously, to win the title in Japan, with four races to go, was a great achievement. Despite the confusion that reigned at the time, as to whether he actually won it or not, the thing we are most grateful for is that Mateschitz was able to witness that race, the very race of victory. That was the positive aspect, to have done it in Japan and to have been able to do it early. It was very, very special for him and for the team,” he concluded to F1.com.
