NFL in shock: Damar Hamlin collapses on field, critical
Terrible accident during Bills-Bengals
The NFL is in shock over what happened in the first quarter of Monday Night Football between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, scheduled to take place at the latter’s home: during the first quarter, after a very hard collision of play, Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field, going into cardiac arrest.
The Bills safety, 24, received heart massage on the field before being taken in “critical condition” to the hospital. The game never resumed: players from both teams joined in prayer in the center of the field and officially the game was “postponed.” However, further communications are awaited from the NFL given the peculiar schedule of American football, which allows little room for postponements and make-ups.
The first thought, however, certainly does not go to the sporting aspect: “Our thoughts are all for Damar Hamlin and the Buffalo Bills,” NFL top officials said in a note. “We will give further information on his condition as soon as possible. The NFL is in continuous contact with the NFL Players Association (the players’ union, ed.), agreeing in the decision to postpone the game.”
