Brazil in mourning: died Roberto Dinamite
Roberto Dinamite, former center forward and Vasco da Gama legend, has died at the age of 68. The Brazilian club’s statement, “The club communicates with deep sadness the death of the greatest idol in the club’s history, Carlos Roberto de Oliveira, Dinamite. Your legacy is eternal. Your influence on the generations that have followed soccer for decades and even christened the names of fans is endless. Thank you for everything Roberto. We love you. Forever.”
Raised in the youth ranks of Vasco da Gama, Roberto made his first-team debut in 1971. In 1979 he moved to Barcelona but returned to Vasco da Gama in 1980. He also played for Portuguesa and Campo Grande before retiring in 1992. With the Brazilian national team, the former striker collected 20 goals in 38 appearances.
