F1, Lando Norris moves closer to an unusual record
McLaren driver is close to an unusual record
Lando Norris finished last season’s championship in seventh place in the rainbow standings, with 122 points scored. The Briton was on the podium on one occasion, at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which was run at the Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari, where Norris finished the race in third place behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.
In the 2023 season, the McLaren driver could hit an unusual and not so welcome record: in fact, the class of 1999 from Bristol managed to hit the podium on six occasions during his first four seasons in Formula 1, but without ever finishing a Grand Prix in front of anyone else.
Norris is already in ninth place in this particular ranking and hopes not to join German Nick Heidfeld at 13: the former driver for Sauber, Williams and Renault among others, competed in F1 between 2000 and 2013 without ever managing to win a GP, compared to 13 podiums.
The McLaren bearer is still far from Heidfeld’s record and we imagine that, as early as next season, he will try to get out of this unusual ranking for good.
