Too severe damage to his car to continue

Carlos Sainz Sr.’s Dakar ended in the worst way. The accident that occurred during the special had ominous consequences on his Audi (the mechanics’ attempt to put it back together did not bear the desired fruit). In the end, the winner of no less than three Dakar editions had to raise the white flag.

With the Spanish driver struggling with the aftermath of the accident, it took Michl, CEO of Audi Sport, to speak for the team: “Carlos would have continued with the drive he always has but it’s time to go home. It was my fault and no one else’s,” his words reported by Marca.
