MotoGp chaos, Sprint Race continues to dislike riders
The decision made by Dorna, Case and FIM did not convince the riders
Bagnaia had already been clear at the last Austrian GP: “Our opinion should count.” With only a few weeks to go before the start of the new MotoGp season (March, in Portugal), the novelty called Sprint Race continues to cause discussion. The decision to introduce it starting right from the 2023 season has already been made by Dorna, Case and FIM, yet discontent among riders is growing.
Under indictment is the increased risk for the riders themselves. Doubling the number of races (the Sprint Race is a halved race but it is still a race) would result in 42 on-track events resulting in double the dangers. Moreover, in light of these 42 total races, the drivers, at the moment, have had no assurance that their payouts will increase. In short, the Sprint Race, intended to increase spectacle and revenue, is causing, for now, only problems.
Pernat, Bastianini’s manager, was clear about the Sprint Race: “Next year the riders will do 42 races, and the short ones will be an unknown. It seems to me an exaggerated move, which creates problems,” his words to Corriere dello Sport.
