Sofia Goggia, official decision on St. Anton Super-G arrives.
FISI has issued an official note on its website
“Sofia Goggia will not take part in the second World Cup women’s super-giant slalom scheduled for Sunday, January 15, on the St. Anton slope. The Bergamasque, who fell during Saturday’s super-giant on the ‘Karl Schranz’ when she was in contention for victory, underwent an MRI and CT scan of her right knee at the La Madonnina clinic in Milan by FISI Medical Commission President Andrea Panzeri, which revealed no damage. Goggia will not compete on Sunday as a precaution, the situation will be monitored in the coming days ahead of next weekend’s races in Cortina,” reads the official statement released by FISI.
The Bergamo-born champion, who fell in the first Super-G on the Austrian slopes held on Saturday – the one that had seen the triumph of Federica Brignone, who also overtook her in the personal bests list in the World Cup – had posted the second best intermediate before the fatal slip.
Sofia Goggia, class of 1992, was born in Bergamo and has a personal trophy cabinet that could make anyone envious. Indeed, she was a gold medalist in the downhill in the 2018 edition of the Olympics staged in Pyeongchang, South Korea, but she can also boast three downhill World Cups and two medals won at the World Championships: a bronze in the giant slalom in Sankt Moritz in 2017 and a silver, in the super-giant, in Are, Sweden, two years later. Her best finish in the overall World Cup standings is the third place she recorded in 2017.
