Tennis, Filippo Volandri sees a blue Slam
Italy had never before had three Azzurri in the Top 20
Tennis Italy is experiencing a golden moment. Never before have we seen three azzurri (Berrettini, Sinner and Musetti) in the ATP Top 20. Volandi, Davis Cup captain and technical director of the men’s over-16 sector, is aware of the great level reached by Italian men’s tennis, so much so that he even speculates on winning a Slam title.
“I think so. Berrettini has already gone to the final at Wimbledon and, last year, he would have had a chance to go all the way again if he had not been stopped by Covid. Sinner came within a hair’s breadth of winning over Alcaraz in New York and, had he cleared that hurdle, would have become the big favorite. These guys have already shown that they can go all the way to the bottom of the big tournaments and then potentially even win them,” his words to Corriere dello Sport.
