Positive debut also for Lorenzo Sonego at the Australian Open 2023. The tennis player from Turin, currently ranked 46th in the Atp rankings, overcame Portugal’s Nuno Borges, who occupies position 104, in four sets with scores of 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1. Hard-fought match that ended after 3 hours and 30 minutes of play.
Now the 1995 class prepares for a very challenging opponent in the second round: in fact, Sonego will face the Polish Hubert Hurkacz, number 10 in the ranking as well as the tenth seed in the draw of the first Slam of the year. Despite the difference in ranking, in the four previous matches in which they have faced each other, the Italian holds a three-to-one advantage. They last met in 2022 in Metz, where Sonego won in two sets.
