Empoli wins, Sampdoria angry and in trouble: 1-0 at Castellani
A new knockout, making the standings even more complicated.
Empoli beat Sampdoria 1-0 at the Castellani in Monday’s post-match match, which makes the Blucerchiati’s ranking even more problematic. If in fact the Tuscan outfit, with its fourth consecutive useful result, joins Bologna on 22 points and in 11th place in Serie A, the Ligurians, on the other hand, are penultimate at -7 from the salvation zone. And also furious about the draw cancelled even in the 97th minute.
First half with several chances, both for Empoli (good Audero on Marin, dangerous also Ebuehi and Caputo), but Sampdoria also tried. Leris indeed pinches the crossbar, then Augello engages Vicario. In the 55th minute, however, Ebuehi himself scores the game-winning goal by framing Bandinelli’s corner into the net. Empoli could dilate, but Sampdoria reacted: Zanoli and Gabbiadini came close to equalizing. Then, in the 97th minute, Colley resolves a scrum by slipping the ball into the net. However, the Var cancels everything for a foul by Gabbiadini. And for the blucerchiato, the knockout hurts even more.
