Genoa plays third: Coda takes down Venezia
Gilardino’s men string together their third consecutive victory
Third consecutive victory for Alberto Gilardino’s Genoa, which overcame Venezia at the Ferraris in the last minutes thanks to a goal by Massimo Coda, his sixth goal of the season in the cadetteria.
First half of the red and blue brand: the hosts take the ball in their hands but without creating great worries to the Venetian rearguard, except with Mattia Aramu who engages the orange-black defender Joronen. Towards the end of the fraction, however, it was the guests who came very close to the lead with Crnigoj, who hit the crossbar of the goal defended by Martinez.
In the second half it was again the usual Aramu who was the most dangerous among the Grifone men: the trequartista, who played for Venezia last year, had his ex-goal cancelled out for offside in the 66th. Gilardino’s men continued to push until the 85th, when Massimo Coda put Genoa ahead with his seventh personal goal in the league, on an assist from Yalcin.
The Genoa side thus moves to 36 points, on a par with second-place Reggina, six points behind leading Frosinone. In contrast, Paolo Vanoli’s Venezia, which remains in 18th position with 20 points, is increasingly struggling.
