Australian Open, Sonego struggles but must surrender to Hurkacz
Sonego surrendered to Hurkacz in five sets
Lorenzo Sonego’s path to the Australian Open 2023 ends in the second round: the tennis player from Turin was outlasted in five sets by the Polish number 10 on the scoreboard, Hubert Hurkacz, who won by the scores of 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The 1995 class surrendered at the end of a hard-fought match from start to finish, where the Italian had managed to pull ahead on two occasions, winning the first and third sets before the strong opponent’s final comeback.
Hurkacz managed to prevail despite taking advantage of only five break points out of the 17 available, while Sonego converted 50 percent of them, five out of ten. The other weapon that helped the Pole a lot was certainly his serve: in fact, the semifinalist at Wimbledon 2021 put up 10 aces.
