Super Cup to Inter, Milan meltdown: derby in Arabia is without history
Italian Super Cup: Milan-Inter 0-3
Inter won the Italian Super Cup by beating AC Milan by a narrow 3-0 scoreline in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was the seventh overall victory, second consecutive, for the Nerazzurri in the trophy that pits the Italian champion club and the winner (or otherwise finalist) of the Coppa Italia against each other. It is also the fourth personal Super Cup for Simone Inzaghi, who is also on his second success in a row.
The match at the King Fahd Stadium was literally without story from the very first bars: on 10′ the Nerazzurri took the lead through Federico Dimarco, who was able to make the most of an assist from a Barella who was good at snapping with pinpoint accuracy beyond the offside line. Then, in the 21st minute, it is already double: Bastoni quickly beats a free kick and serves Dzeko, who gets rid of Tonali on the dribble and pierces Tatarusanu with a precise diagonal.
Milan, besides feeling the weight of the double disadvantage, seemed confused and without ideas and rarely made themselves really dangerous in front of Onana. Even the entries of De Ketelaere and Origi do not have any positive effects, and it is indeed still Inter, after managing the lead easily, to close the accounts in the 77th minute: Skriniar’s throw for Lautaro Martinez, the Argentine frees himself from Tomori and fires a conclusion that leaves no escape for the Romanian goalkeeper.
In the final, Rebic, absent in official matches since before the World Cup break, reappeared, but it was too late to try to reopen the contest: at the triple whistle the Nerazzurri exulted, beating Milan for the first time in two attempts in a Super Cup derby.
