Italy women’s tennis is smiling. Giorgi wins a pass to the third round of the Australian Open (the fifth time in her career she has done so). The Italian won over Slovakia Schmiedlova, No. 105 in the world, in two sets: 6-4, 6-3 the partials in favor of Giorgi, who made the most of all the opportunities she had. Even in the only moment of difficulty, at 0-2 in the second set, Giorgi did not lose confidence in her tennis, recovering great and closing practice 6-3).
On Saturday, the 31-year-old Macerata native will challenge the winner of the match between Liu and Bencic (No. 12 seed in the women’s draw) for a place in the round of 16.
