Fantastic Florian Schieder: amazing race.

Fantastic Florian Schieder: the Italian finished second in the men’s World Cup downhill in the temple of Kitzbuehel. The Carabiniere from Castelrotto, who started with number 43, made the most of the conditions on the slope, starting when the little road after the Steilhang had quickened slightly. The stretch up to the Larchenschuss, and then again in the final schuss after the Hausbergkante, was decisive for the Italian. Only 23 hundredths separated him from the winner, host Vincent Kriechmayr.

“I gave it my all with all the nastiness and all the courage I have. I didn’t make any big mistakes: for a downhill racer it is a dream to stand on the podium in Kitzbuehel. A dream come true. Year after year you always grow a little bit, but coming here is something special since only the best win here. For me it is even more special thinking that my countryman Peter Fill won here. So many emotions to digest, but I have to sleep tonight because there will be another race right away,” Schieder said at the finish.

At home in Italy among the top 20 also Mattia Casse, 17th, followed by Christof Innerhofer 22nd. Just outside the points zone Matteo Marsaglia 31st, while Guglielmo Bosca and Pietro Zazzi, finished 43rd and 45th respectively, with Nicolò Molteni 51st.
