Olimpia, 14th defeat. Messina: “Let’s leave the market alone.”
Milan falls at home against Asvel Villeurbanne, fourth straight Euroleague loss
Yet another Euroleague loss for Olimpia Milano, beaten at home by Asvel Villeurbane 73-79. For Ettore Messina’s team it’s the fourth consecutive ko in Europe, the fourteenth in this Euroleague edition that sees the meneghini in last place in the standings together with Alba Berlin.
After the match Coach Messina commented on the ko as follows, “Too many times we lost important balls. And we allowed them those three-point shots that decided the game. The market? Let’s leave the market alone, the matter is closed. Now we have a game in Reggio Emilia, then we have to prepare for the Italian Cup. The fact that I am more or less well does not matter. These ups and downs are not easy for the team to handle. We cannot allow this to take away our confidence in the league.”
More on the match: “We once again came back, we had a lead, even going to +5, but unfortunately another time lost balls and shooting errors doomed us, as well as free throws, with 2/8 in the last quarter. It’s part of the game, but they weighed. That’s kind of the story of this season. We lost ourselves in a glass of water.”
“The unsportsmanlike conduct whistled at Hines? That was a moment where the game turned. Like the one in the end of the first half, when the foul on Baron was not a whistled, which the referees later told us was wrong, and they scored from 3-point range.”
