Matteo Berrettini has already realized a dream: confession
Head held high after recent disappointments.
Matteo Berrettini is coming off a very complicated few months, including injuries, Covid and the Australian Open disappointment. The Roman tennis player, however, is aiming for redemption ahead of the ATP 500 tournament in Acapulco and, above all, he retains great pride in his career achievements. And his words prove it.
“If you have the awareness to commit yourself and try to improve every day, at the end of the day you can go to sleep satisfied with yourself,” Berrettini told the microphones of ‘ATP Uncovered.’ “And it’s not about winning or losing a match or a trophy. You have to love what you are doing and your life.”
Berrettini then explained where he finds stimulation even in more complicated times. “As a child,” he revealed, “I dreamed of finding myself here and facing the greatest in tennis. Champions like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic I could only watch them on television. Now I play against them instead. That gives me great motivation, and I think that will be the case for future generations as well.”
“If you have a dream in your heart and you work hard, you can achieve it. And if you don’t make it by trying to achieve it, still you will learn something that will serve you forever,” Berrettini then concluded.
