Turkey earthquake, Vincenzo Montella recounts the drama

On the night between Sunday and Monday, a very strong earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria. Vincenzo Montella, coach of Adana Demirspor, told ANSA about the drama he is experiencing, “There are continuous aftershocks, we are all worried and at the mercy of events.”

“With Demirspor we have been in Istanbul since yesterday. Adana is 200 kilometers from the epicenter, where the situation is tragic, but we have heard that there are the first deaths in our city as well. The earthquake was also felt strongly there, many of my players are worried about the families. They reported to us that buildings collapsed and a lot of people were on the streets in the night. Even the hotel where I reside in Adana I know was evacuated and caught fire.”

“I don’t know the status of things in detail; we are all worried and at the mercy of events. I have given the team two to three days off waiting to figure out what to do: there are continuous aftershocks and only in the next few days will we know how to handle the situation. I will also have to evaluate what to do: the league will stop starting next day,” concluded Vincenzo Montella.
