Italy, Simone Ferrari at Twickenham without fear
The words of Simone Ferrari
A great boost of confidence and the knowledge that they can do even better: these are the main signals that came from Italy’s first match at the Six Nations 2023, lost 29-24 against France in an Olympic Stadium that for large stretches dreamed of witnessing the feat against the defending champions. Most importantly, this performance boosts confidence toward the next challenge, Sunday, Feb. 12 at Twickenham against England, as Italrugby right prop Simone Ferrari explains.
“This match leaves us with a lot of confidence, we were ready at the meeting point and in the static phases against a super-experienced and competent pack. The fact that there are still other things that we can improve gives us even more confidence ahead of Twickenham: we know that what we did on Sunday we can replicate and improve in the next matches. Beyond the result we have to assess our growth, every game we want to put an extra brick in place and never take a step backwards in performance, working on the details and details.”
“We have to remain humble and climb this mountain one step at a time, but we are preparing each game like a final, and for what we are showing we can play it, although it will not be easy. Also because if before someone could underestimate us, now there is no surprise effect: they will work knowing that we can put them in trouble and they will not underestimate us. Then they come from a home defeat against Scotland, so it will be even harder because they will want to redeem themselves.”
