Marta Bassino triumphs in SuperG
Marta Bassino’s feat in the SuperG at the World Alpine Ski Championships in Courchevel-Meribel won the gold medal at the end of a masterfully conducted race.
Despite the fact that in the very first part of the downhill the Italian skier recorded the worst time among all the participants, from that point on she skied perfectly reaching a great speed, thus managing to conquer the highest step of the podium with a time of 1′ 28″ 06, placing ahead of the American Shiffrin (1′ 28″ 17) and the Austrian Huetter (1′ 28″ 39), third ex aequo with the Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie.
Second medal and second gold for the Italian expedition after Federica Brignone’s in combined on the first day of competition. The Aosta Valley native in SuperG finished seventh, Sofia Goggia 10th and Elena Curtoni 14th.
