Giroud lifts Milan back up: Torino knocked out at San Siro
A slump-busting victory, worth a temporary return to third place.
Milan again victorious at the San Siro, where Torino fell 1-0 with the Rossoneri putting their three consecutive Serie A defeats behind them. The decider was Olivier Giroud, back in the net in the 62nd minute and the author of the goal that fixed the result of Friday night’s advance to 1-0 for the hosts.
The first minutes of the match confirmed the fears of Milan, which suffered the initiatives of a strong-willed Torino. Then Leao turned on, who, however, failed to scare the Granata rearguard. Miranchuk and Vlasic do not take advantage of some Rossoneri inattentions in disengagement and Sanabria touches the post on two occasions: on the second one Tatarusanu is decisive.
After a first half in apnea, Milan manages to approach the resumption with a different spirit. So first Leao forces Milinkovic-Savic to intervene on Giroud’s initiative, then it is the Frenchman himself who signs the match-winning goal. He did so in the 62nd minute, after another great chance for Sanabria: the Frenchman took full advantage of a left-footed scramble by Theo Hernandez and deposited the ball into the net with his header. It was Hernandez himself who failed to double, and in the final minutes Milan withstood the Granata attacks (even Milinkovic-Savic in the box in the dying minutes), returned to winning ways and temporarily moved back to third place in the standings and +2 from fifth-placed Lazio.
