Cross-country skiing, the 18 Azzurri for the World Championships

President Flavio Roda made official with resolution number 36 of Feb. 6, 2023, the convocation for the World Cross-country Ski Championships scheduled in Planica (Slo) from Feb. 21 to March 5. These are 18 total athletes, equally divided between men and women. Following are the names:

WOMEN’S TEAM

Comarella Anna – Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro Moena – 12/03/1997
A Venetian from Cortina d’Ampezzo, she is in her third rainbow participation after Seefeld 2019, where she placed seventh in the relay, and Oberstdorf 2021 where she finished 21st in the skiathlon and 31st in the 10 km free technique.

Di Centa Martina – Centro Sportivo Carabinieri – 06/03/2000
A Friulian from Paluzza, she is in her second senior World Championships, after she finished 35th in the skiathlon in Oberstdorf.

Franchi Francesca – Gruppo Sciatori Fiamme Gialle – 12/24/1997
From Molveno in Trentino, she is in her second rainbow participation at the senior level. In 2021 in Oberstdorf she was 16th in the 10 km free technique and 27th in the skiathlon.

Ganz Caterina – Gruppo Sciatori Fiamme Gialle – 11/13/1995
From Moena, Trento, she is in her fourth World Championships after Lahti 2017, Seefeld 2019 and Obertsdorf. As her best finish she boasts a ninth place with the relay in Finland.

Laurent Nadine – Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro – 10/06/2003

Monsorno Nicole – Gruppo Sciatori Fiamme Gialle – 07/02/2000
From Varena, Trento, she is in her second experience in a senior rainbow event. She made her debut at the 2021 World Championships in Oberstdorf, where she finished 25th in the classic technique sprint.

Trentino of Panchià, participated in the Seefeld 2019 skiathlon, which ended in 35th place, and Oberstdorf 2021 in which he was 33rd.

De Fabiani Francesco – Centro Sportivo Esercito – 21/04/1993
A Valdostan from Gressoney St. Jean, he is in his fifth participation in a World Championship after Falun 2015, Lahti 2017, Seefeld 2019 and Oberstdorf 2021. He was a bronze medalist in the team sprint in Seefeld with Federico Pellegrino.

Graz Davide – Gruppo Sciatori Fiamme Gialle – 05/03/2000
Sappadino, is in his third participation in a World Championships after Seefeld 2019, where he came close to qualifying for the final stage in the free technique sprint, and Obertsdorf 2021 in which he did not take part in the 15 km free technique.

Mocellini Simone – Gruppo Sciatori Fiamme Gialle – 05/05/1998
Trentino from Grigno, is in his second convocation for a senior World Championships. In Oberstdorf, 50th place in the sprint in classic technique.

Noeckler Dietmar – Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro Moena – 09/29/1988
A South Tyrolean from Falzes, this is his fourth participation in a World Championship after Val di Fiemme 2013, Falun 2015 and Lahti 2017. He won two medals in the team sprint (silver in Lahti and bronze in Falun) together with Federico Pellegrino.

Federico Pellegrino – Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro Moena – 01/09/1990
A Valdostan from Nus, he is at his seventh rainbow participation after Oslo 2011, Val di Fiemme 2013, Falun 2015, Lahti 2017, Seefeld 2019 and Oberstdorf 2021. His resume speaks of a gold in the Lahti sprint, two silvers in the Seefeld sprint and Lahti team sprint, and two bronzes in the Falun team sprint and Seefeld team sprint.

Salvadori Giandomenico – Gruppo Sciatori Fiamme Gialle – 08/10/1992
Trentino di Mezzano, is in his fourth World Championships after Lahti 2017, Seefeld 2019 and Oberstdorf 2021. He achieved a 10th place in the Austrian skiathlon as his best individual finish.

Ventura Paolo – Centro Sportivo Esercito – 01/04/1996
Trentino di Tesero, is in his second participation in a senior World Championship. In 2021 he finished 41st in the skiathlon.
