Grand Italia: Sofia Goggia triumphs in Crans Montana, Federica Brignone second
Spectacular performance by the Italian women in the World Cup downhill in Switzerland
Memorable Sunday for Italian women’s skiing in Crans Montana: Sofia Goggia won the downhill race in Switzerland, mortgaging the Specialty Cup.
The skier from Bergamo was just 15 hundredths ahead of an excellent Federica Brignone, who took second place, signing a splendid Italian double.
In a race initially affected by the weather conditions, Sofia Goggia was decisive especially in the second part of the slope: now the lead over Stuhec, who finished ninth, is wide and the downhill cup is now mortgaged. Third place went to France’s Laura Gauche.
For Sofia Goggia this is the 22nd career success: having overtaken Federica Brignone, she is now alone at the top among the most successful Italian female skiers ever.
