Sofia Goggia, second place

Second place in the downhill in Kvitfjell is more than enough for Sofia Goggia to win the fourth specialty Cup of her career, the third consecutive, after those already won in 2018, 2021, 2022. A Cup marked by five successes and two second places out of the eight races held in the specialty: a true domination that is well explained by the 660 points scored by the Bergamasque: a good 209 more than those of the most direct pursuer, Slovenia’s Ilka Stuhec, when only the Soldeu Finals race is missing at the end of the season.

In today’s downhill came the first career success for Norway’s Kaisa Lie, who was really good at interpreting Olympiabakken, her home course, and trimming 29 hundredths off the champion. And it is the first ever victory by a Norwegian in downhill. Third place for Switzerland’s Corinne Suter, 41 hundredths behind the winner.

And there is a second verdict expressed by the Kvitfjell downhill ranking: Mikaela Shiffrin, with fifth place, arithmetically wins the overall Cup, the fifth for the 27-year-old starlet.

Also an excellent race for Federica Brignone, who managed to snag seventh place 85 cents behind Lie. In the 15 also Elena Curtoni 13/a with 1″13 delay and Laura Pirovano 15/a at 1″27, but victim of a serious mistake in the central part of the course that made the Trentino woman lose a lot of time and many positions in the ranking.

Further behind were Nicol Delago at 2″03 and Nadia Delago at 2″62.
