Filippo Ganna firm: “I don’t go to races to train.”
Filippo Ganna is explicit
Filippo Ganna, who on Tuesday retained the Tirreno-Adriatico leader’s blue jersey he won on Monday, was very direct at the end of the stage won by Fabio Jakobsen. “I don’t go to races to train,” the Piedmontese Ineos-Grenadiers rider pointed out. “I was very focused today, at the same time I wanted to take as few risks as possible. I stayed out of the fray in the finale, as did our GC men. I hope to come out of Tirreno-Adriatico in top form for the classics and the Giro d’Italia.”
At the end of a tight sprint Fabio Jakobsen (Soudal Quick-Step) claimed his 40th career victory, his first on Italian soil. The Dutch sprinter mocked Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Fernando Gaviria (Movistar Team) at the photo finish, who had played an early start at the 250-meter mark before being sucked in right at the finishing straight.
