Indian Wells, Matteo Berrettini is ready: “Fortunately, I’m fine.”
A difficult period to put behind us with newfound ambition.
Matteo Berrettini is preparing to return to the court in Indian Wells, the first Masters 1000 of the new season. And for him there are to forget the disappointments of the Australian Open and the many problems suffered in this beginning of 2023. The Roman, however, has guaranteed that he is ready both physically and mentally.
“Fortunately, I’m feeling good,” Berrettini explained at the press conference, “I’m training hard, and my leg is responding well to all the tests done in the last few days. Overall, I am relieved that this injury was nothing serious. Now I am aiming to accumulate matches and hours of play. I want to come back from Indian Wells with the most matches played. But the season is long, and I know I can’t ask too much of myself.”
Berrettini will make his Indian Wells debut on Friday, facing Japan’s Taro Daniel. “I know him well, I have played against him several times in the past,” the Roman recalled. “However, I do not forget that after a period like the one I have had, each match must be taken individually. I will live one day at a time, in no hurry, continuing to work with my head down.”
