Internazionali d'Italia, Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini clear first hurdle in doubles

The path of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in the women’s doubles draw at the Internazionali d’Italia began with a convincing two-set victory: on the clay court of the Foro Italico in Rome, the Olympic gold-winning pair defeated the one composed of China’s Jiang Xinyu and China Taipei’s Wu Fang-Hsien.
6-3, 6-4 the final score in favor of the two blues, who after leading authoritatively the first fraction of the match started the second one badly, going down 2-0, before recovering and winning six of the next eight games: that was enough to close the accounts in the Roman evening, after one’hour and eleven minutes of play.
The name of the two opponents in the next round will be known on Saturday, May 10: facing Errani and Paolini will in fact be either the duo composed of Canadian Leylah Fernandez and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva or the one formed by Japanese Makoto Ninomiya and Chinese Xu Xifan. The match is scheduled not earlier than 2 p.m.
.
Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini are the reigning women’s doubles champions in Rome: in 2024 they beat, in sequence, the pairs Melichar-Martinez/Perez, Abbagnato/Zantedeschi and Kichenok/Ostapenko, before getting the better of the U.S. Dolehide and Krawczyk in the final with a final score of 2 sets to 1.
