Indian Wells, Jannik Sinner’s admission: “I was a little tense.”
The admission is that he had to overcome physical problems, but also some emotional blockage.
Jannik Sinner wins his first at the Indian Wells 2023 Masters 1000, thanks to his 6-3, 7-6(2) victory in two sets over Richard Gasquet. But if the score seemed to suggest an easier first set than the second, the South Tyrolean had to recover from a possible 0-3 before taking the right countermeasures to his opponent. And at the end of the match he was keen to recount what problems he faced in the early minutes of the contest.
“At the beginning I felt a bit tense,” Sinner admitted at the end of the match, “After that I was able to relax more, and there is no doubt that coming into the tournament like this is so important. Here in Indian Wells it is crucial to find the right balance. Even though I play aggressively, the conditions on the court can be delicate considering the wind.”
“I have regained the right physical condition,” Sinner further explained about his condition. I’m really happy to be able to take the court here and play at my best, especially after having to leave the tournament in Marseille where I got sick.”
