Sensi responds to Verdi: 1-1 draw between Hellas Verona and Monza

After two consecutive victories comes a draw for Monza: 1-1 the final result of the challenge against Hellas Verona. Verdi’s lead in the 51st minute was answered by Sensi four minutes later.

Excellent point for Monza, which rises to 33 points, bitter for Hellas now at 19 points in the standings but a good 5 from fourth-last Spezia. Verona immediately tries to accelerate, but it’s Monza’s first real chance: former Pessina from the center of the area lifts it over the crossbar. Verdi responds, free kick from outside, nobody touches it, ball on the bottom. Kallon gets a corner: Lazovic in the middle, the defense guards well. Kallon, well served on the right, ‘holes’ and puts in the middle but no one is ready for the winning shot. Monza let do without uncovering themselves. Ciurria from the limit, weak, Montipò neutralizes. Race, now, soporific. At the back: Monza corner, nothing done; free kick from the right by Verdi, ditto. Intermission.

In the second half, inside Cabal and Doig in Hellas, Machin in Monza: these are the moves of Zaffaroni and Palladino. 6′: Verdi unlocks it with an underhand shot on which Di Gregorio, despite the deflection, can do nothing, Verona-Monza 1-0. Not 3 minutes pass that Monza equalizes: Sensi runs into the net under the goal with the Scaligera defense standing by to the delight of the 1000 or so Lombard fans. Open race. Monza, refreshed, smells three points. Montipò removes the chestnuts from the fire by coming out in the scrum with his fists. Palladino’s boys take the field, former Caprari (15′) launched on a counterattack makes it 1-2 but the Var cancels for offside by Petagna. Here we go again: 1 to 1. For Hellas another change: inside De Paoli. Front-wheel drive Verona risks everything, Monza more compact waiting for the winning breakthrough. The game is played on a razor’s edge. In, after a long injury, also Djuric in Hellas, then Veloso; in Monza, here’s Colpani, then former Valoti.

Tiredness prevails, the flare-up is needed. Petagna tries, rebounded in corner, Marì’s breakaway ends over the crossbar. Finally the best chance is wasted by Pessina, kicking over the crossbar from an ideal position.
