Sofia Goggia says goodbye, thanks and unveils latest goal
Sofia Goggia, many thanks to bid farewell to a triumphant season
“It was a satisfying downhill season: out of nine races held in the World Cup I won five, one I didn’t finish, and my worst result was to finish second three times.” This is how Sofia Goggia expressed herself on the microphones of RTL 102.5 on the sidelines of the last downhill of the 2022/23 World Cup Alpine Skiing, in which the champion from Bergamo, already winner of the specialty trophy, gave herself another brilliant podium finish, coming in second.
“Today I tried to give my best,” she recounted, “I finished second albeit with strange slope conditions. It was not so easy but I am very satisfied.” In addition to the budgets, the Bergamasque answered specific questions about any people to whom to dedicate the successes of a season to remember: “I don’t think about who to dedicate the podiums to, but I feel like saying thank you to all the people who loved me and contributed to the success of this season and the conquest of this fourth globe. I thank my family, the Yellow Flames, the Federation, my friends.”
The downhill season is over, but not that of the other disciplines, and Goggia is keen to do well in the other speed race in Soldeu: “Now focus on tomorrow’s SuperG,” she said. “This year in the SuperG I have picked up little, perhaps due to the hand injury. It’s a good opportunity to do well and I don’t want to let it slip through my fingers.”
