Matteo Berrettini is far from his best condition
Matteo Berrettini is reckoning with a crisis that seems to give him no respite at the moment: the Azzurro was eliminated at the Phoenix Challenger by world number 132 Alexander Shevchenko, and confirmed his disastrous start to 2023, which began with first-round eliminations at the Australian Open and Indian Wells.
The Roman tennis player seems to be in a crisis of confidence, so much so that during the match against his Russian opponent he vented: “Take me off the court, please, I am unwatchable,” were the words intercepted by courtside microphones and reported by Corriere della Sera.
Berrettini now looks to Miami with hopes of seeing light at the end of the tunnel again.
