Sinner in the second round

A tiring but winning debut at the Australian Open for Jannik Sinner, who on the concrete in Melbourne as the tournament s defending champion beat Chilean Nicolás Jarry, world number 35, in three sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6, 6-1 in 2 hours and 42 minutes of play.

The South Tyrolean in the first set had to nullify two break points, even missing one in his favor, but in the tie-break he upped the tempo, extending his positive streak. The second set also followed the service turns until the new winning epilogue. Without history the third set where Sinner's opponent è collapsed.

In the next round the Azure will find Australian wild card Tristan Schoolkate or Japan’s Taro Daniel, both rivals well within his reach as he waits to start getting serious from the round of 16 onward, if the projected top seeds do not leave the scene first.

Sinner, undefeated since the Beijing final against Carlos Alcaraz, scored his 15th win in a row, thus equaling his second-longest winning streak in his career. The South Tyrolean also has not lost a set since his third-round match in Shanghai in 2024 against Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
