Mattia Casse ahead of the pack at the Italian overall championships

Mattia Casse posted the fastest time at the end of the time trial that preceded the men’s downhill at the Italian absolute championships in La Thuile, Val d’Aosta. The 33-year-old cop from Piedmont stopped the stopwatch at 1’00″76, just 31 hundredths ahead of Val d’Ultimo champion Dominik Paris. In third place, far behind the leading two, 2002 class Marco Abbruzzese, 1″21 behind. Fourth place for Emanuele Buzzi (+1″64) and Max Perathoner fifth (+1″77); among the big names in the race, Matteo Marsaglia 34th.

Disqualified among others, due to a gate jump, were Christof Innerhofer, Tobias Kastlunger, Guglielmo Bosca, Pietro Zazzi, Florian Schieder and Niccolò Molteni.

In the women’s event, provisional first place went to Ludovica Righi: the very young 2006 class from S.C. Edelweiss, won over the competition with a time of 1’05″25, edging out 33 hundredths to Monica Zanoner second and 39 hundredths to Giulia Albano, third at the finish line. Door jump for Nicol Delago, absent among others were Sofia Goggia, Marta Bassino and Federica Brignone.
