Italy, Mancini: “Retegui reminds me of Batistuta.”
Azzurri coach Mancini spoke about the new additions to the lineup
Italy coach Roberto Mancini spoke on the eve of the match against England, valid for Euro 2024 qualification.
Among the new additions is a lot of curiosity about the Italo-Argentine Retegui: “Coming like this from Argentina to Italy, and not in a club team, is not so easy. It takes some time, but the boy is polite and smart. He is a good center forward, young, we have great confidence and we have to give him some time. He is a classic center forward, I see many compare him to Denis. I remember when Batistuta arrived in Italy, you remember him…. Clearly he is a young guy and he needs time and to grow.”
On the national team’s ambitions: “We have to try to do what we did and then return to winning, return to being what we were before. It was a big disappointment not to be at the World Cup, we didn’t deserve it, but in all this we qualified twice to the Nations League final four. Now we start again, we have young players. We want to qualify, win the Nations League and then play the European Championship at our best as defending champions.”
