Marc Marquez costs Marc Marquez dearly for crash at Portimao
After Pol Espargarò and Enea Bastianini, Marc Marquez will also miss the upcoming GP in Termas de Rio Hondo, Argentina, scheduled for Sunday, April 2. The Spanish centaur, after the accident that also led to Miguel Oliveira’s crash, suffered a compound fracture of the first metacarpal of his right thumb.
“Upon returning to Spain for further checks, Marc Marquez was diagnosed with a decomposed intraracular fracture of the base of the first metacarpal of the thumb of his right hand. The number 93 rider immediately underwent surgery at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, com Dr. Ignacio Roger de Ona leading a team composed of Dr. Samuel Antuna and Andrea Garcia Villanueva. The surgery consisted of a fracture closure and internal fixation of the fracture with two screws. Marc Marquez and the Repsol Honda Team have mutually agreed that the eight-time world champion will miss the next Grand Prix to fully focus on recovery and arrive at the next rounds in the best possible condition,” this the statement issued by Honda.
It remains to be seen what will become of the double long lap penalty imposed on the Spanish rider after the Portimao accident. This penalty would have been applied with exclusive validity only for the Argentine GP.
