Marc Marquez, some talk of a points penalty
Marc Marquez, the penalty
While waiting to hear the outcome of the appeal filed by Honda over the penalty imposed on Marc Marquez after Portimao, former FIM president Vito Ippolito had his say in tweets that are causing discussion.
“Rules and common sense: common sense suggests that penalties such as long lap penalties should be observed at the first possible opportunity. However, it also seems to me that this type of penalty works well and is effective if served in the current race and not in subsequent races. It would be better to use other penalties such as taking away points in the standings.”
After clinching a 125 world championship in 2010 and a Moto2 world championship in 2012, Marc Marquez officially made his MotoGp debut in 2013 on a Honda. Already in his first year in the top MotoGP category, he won the championship ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and teammate Daniel Pedrosa. From 2014 to 2019 he won five more World Championships, not triumphing until 2015, the year in which he served as the needle in the challenge between Valentino Rossi and Lorenzo.
