Ferrari: Sainz-Leclerc, face to face after qualifying
Tension in Ferrari after the forgettable qualifying in the Australian Grand Prix. After venting via team radio to the team, Charles Leclerc, who finished seventh, had a face-to-face with Carlos Sainz after interviews following official practice.
The driver from the Principality complained mostly about not getting the slipstream from the Iberian, and via team radio he was crystal clear: “A Q3 of m…, with no preparation laps and the rain did not come. A big thank you to Carlos for the slipstream, I got some speed and that’s always nice,” he said wryly.
So after the race Leclerc went directly to Sainz to ask for an explanation, and was immortalized by French broadcaster Canal Plus. Sainz seemed very surprised at first, afterwards he tried to explain himself to the Monegasque.
Vasseur explained Leclerc’s nervousness this way, “We were on the limit with the time towards the end of the session and so we avoided doing the preparation lap with Charles. Unfortunately, things didn’t go the right way for us.”
