James Allison stings rival stables

Formula 1 faces the first of two weekends off (complicating the cancellation of the China GP), giving teams a chance to reflect on a start to the season that, barring the dominance of Max Verstappen and Red Bull, is providing more than a few surprises, especially thanks to the no-holds-barred challenge between Ferrari, Aston Martin and Mercedes.

Precisely from Brackley, headquarters of the Anglo-German stable, come the words of James Allison, who stings the rivals and in particular the Red Bull (for whom he worked between 1999 and 2005 and between 2013 and 2016): “We have started to get closer to Red Bull and we have been up to the level of Ferrari and Aston Martin,” said the Mercedes technical director in an interview published on the team’s YouTube channel. “In fact, I would say that we have really started to put the nose in front of both of them.

“Our level compared to Ferrari has not changed that much, but we are still growing. Of course, it wasn’t really a surprise; however, we have to understand whether the result in Melbourne was due to the particularity of the track or because we actually took a big step forward. We will understand in the next races.”
